Online Sites

Most of these online sites are very similar in many different ways. The whole purpose is to get your information out there and be able to view others info. The more online sites I am on the more overwhelming it seems. I personally started this class excited to learn all the new technology that is out there. I am at the point of being confused and frustrated. This is not going to stop. Every day I would imagine that new online sites are being created. It is hard to keep up.

Image Generator

The image generator site was fun to play around with I can't think of anything right off hand of how I can use it in the classroom.   http://www.geogreeting.com/view.html?yusxRLK

LibraryThing

On Librarything I was able to find a number of different things. First, it has book reviews of what others thought. The site is able to take what books I put in my catalog and give other suggestions of books that I might be interested in. KIN710 is opening my eyes to how to use all of this information that is available. My LibraryThing catalog is at http://www.librarything.com/catalog/lancaj11

Podcast

I visited both podcast sites, http://www.podcast.com/ and http://www.podcastalley.com/. After visiting both sites I realized there is really good information all over the web in a number of different technology forms. There was a few sites that I added to my RSS feed that interested me. As nice as that was to hear someone talk about a topic I am interested in I found it hard to pay attention if it was longer then about three minutes.

Technorati

My biggest problem with some of these blogs are, these are mostly just peoples opinions. I have spent a lot of time looking up information that is going to help me become a better teacher, but what I am finding is that I am getting overloaded with peoples opinions on stuff. Don't get me wrong I bet there is a lot of really good info out there, but I am not finding what I want.

What do I prefer Boards Vs. Blogs

I personally prefer discussion boards vs. blogs. The reason is because with the discussion boards I can get others input and opinion on a particular topic. If it is a topic I am not interested in I don’t have to look at it. If it is something I have an interest in. I can click on it and give my opinion or read what others have said. To me it seems faster and easier. This might just be because I have more experience with discussion board then blogs.

Proper Squat Form

YouTube

My experience has been pretty good using YouTube. The video I chose was a weightlifting that showed how to do a proper squat. I used this in my weightlifting unit in class. I showed the video on a projector then took the kids to the weight room to work on the skill.
The only problem I found is when I had a great video and the person took it off YouTube I could not get that video back. Other then that I like YouTube.

Del.icio.us

When I first started using del.icio.us I though "great one more site to figure out." Then I asked a co-worker of mine a question and found that on their bookmarks he had some sites bookmarked. After looking through his bookmarks I realized I would be able to use a number of these as a teacher.
As a professional I can see many useful ways to use del.icio.us. The teacher I asked has already looked up and found a great website for weight training. So instead of me doing all the work and sifting through countless websites. I can use what others have already found.

RSS

I am not going to lie at first I didn't like RSS until I learned how it can help me. I figured out how to make is so I am sent information when someone writes about something I am interested in. Instead of me searching for the information it is sent to me. What a wonderful world we live in.

Web 2.0

The very first thing I had to do was find out what Web 2.0 was. Then the second thing I did was check out what some of the sites were. Something I found helpful for me was Lulu, I recently got an Ipad so now I can go on Lulu and buy ebooks. Dr. Sailor thank you for giving us a link to the seomoz awards, now I know a good place to purchase ebooks.

What a Different World

In one of the articles it was talking about all the different types of social media that are available. So, I did my own research with a number of my students. I was amazed that they all use some source of social media in their lives. This made me realize I need to catch up on what is available and how to use it.

Ipads in Physical Education

Our school recently received a PEP grant. Through this grant our school purchased a number of Ipads. As a physical education teacher I was trying to figure out how I can use the Ipad to help me in the classroom. I am still using trial and error phase, but what I have been doing is down loading apps on the Ipad and hooking the Ipad up to a projector. The kids seem to love it because they get to try a variety of different activities.
